The original Mad Monk, Rasputin was a mysterious figure in Russian history, a peasant who gained notoriety through his self-proclaimed powers of healing and prediction. The eccentric figure became prominent in the court of Czar Nicholas II and his growing influence and controversial lifestyle eventually led to his mysterious assassination in 1916 and persists today in myth.
